There is a big debate among computer users as to when the best, and most cost-effective time is to upgrade. In this video, Brandon and Jake from LockerGnome share their opinions on when to upgrade your computer. Brandon believes in upgrading your system components, rather than buying a new computer every time new technology becomes available. By keeping track of when Intel and/or AMD come out with a new socket, he is able to determine whether or not a new motherboard needs to be purchased when buying a new processor. Jake, on the other hand, buys an entirely new system yearly. By doing this, he enjoys an entire set of updated features including bigger hard drives, newer optical drive technology, and faster processing without the hassle of having to buy new individual pieces. This is a video capture of the BIOS upgrading process for the HP Mini 5101 from the current firmware F.01 to the latest firmware F.02. The upgrade claims to be able to moderate fan activity to a more "decent" level. Frankly speaking, fan activity (for my case) is still noticeably rampant while on AC power even after upgrading (yes, I've DISabled "Fan always on while on AC" in the Device Configuration portion of the BIOS after upgrade process); but this time round, while on battery power solely, the fan DOES seem to be "moderated" better, ie only kicking in every now & then. |
