MAC Pro RAM Upgrade

This is a brief video on how to upgrade or replace RAM in Mac Pro computer. The upgrade was done from 3GB (original manuf.) to 8GB of RAM for this early 2009 Mac Pro model. UDIMMs must meet these specifications: PC3-8500, 1066 MHz, DDR3 SDRAM UDIMMs Error-correcting code (ECC) 72 bit wide, 240 pin ECC modules 36 ICs maximum per ECC UDIMM IMPORTANT: BEFORE WORKING ON YOUR COMPUTER, MAKE SURE YOU ARE ESD SAFE! Just Google the word ESD and find out how to prevent electrostatic build up. If you wash your hands with water before working on your computer, could prevent electrostatic build up considerably. Make sure you don't have any excess water on your hands. Prior to any work, disconnect power cord and all cables/connectors of any device connected to your computer. |

05/16/2012 I bought this netbook for my mom recently, and when I looked it up online searching for how to get at the hard drive and memory, I literally couldn't find anything pertaining to this specific model of computer... Or anything remotely similar to it even! So of course I had to tinker around with it! I figured it out after a while, and thankfully did not break anything in the process. If anyone decides to try higher RAM capacities than 2GB, please let me know the results, as Gateway Online says this computer will only support 2GB, but I do not personally believe that. Sadly, I don't have any DDR3 RAM to test that theory with. The RAM is DDR3, CPU-Z labeled it as PC3-10700 (667Mhz), so another thing I'd like to know is the maximum supported RAM speed (which isn't mentioned ANYWHERE). The hard drive is advertised on the unit itself and online at Bestbuy.com as being only 250GB, when in reality it is a 320GB. Has the industry changed standards to only advertise REMAINING hard drive space to make way for their bloatware without causing an uproar I wonder? lol. I also hope that Toshiba has upped their longevity.. I swore a long time ago never to use another Toshiba drive after my laptop spit out the 160GB Toshiba drive it had, only 6 months after I bought the laptop... But this being my mom's computer, I'm not going to mess with the hard drive unless it does blow up.
